I'd suggest using XF86Setup with Debian, select Mouse (ctrl-M), (dismiss the
window that comes up), Select Microsoft and set the Mouse device to
/dev/gpmdata. Press 'a' to apply, you can now use the mouse.

Nose through the other configuration options to ensure they are correct.
This is *really* important! You could invite serious disaster with the wrong
display settings!

You will need to ensure gpm is running.  Check this with 'ps ax | grep gpm |
grep -v grep'
If there is no output, you may manually run gpm with 'gpm -m /dev/psaux -t
ps2 -Rms3'

You should also be able to setup gpm using 'gpmconfig' (use the above
parameters).

I believe this all should work with your mouse, if not make sure gpm is off
('gpm -k') and run XF86Setup and experiment. Use that info to configure gpm,
and then use XF86Setup again to configure the mouse to work according to gpm
(as per above).
