Have you checked that the history files that you have are in the
directory that inn expects? The directory is configured with `pathdb'
in inn.conf:
[johnc@wombat ~]$ grep pathdb /etc/news/inn.conf
pathdb: /var/lib/news
[johnc@wombat ~]$ ls -l /var/lib/news/
total 2001
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 1476 Mar 14 18:38 active
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 1514 May 28 2001 active.old
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 1052 May 27 2001 active.times
-rw-r--r-- 1 news news 72 Jul 24 2000 distributions
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 1766601 May 30 14:01 history
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 184 May 30 14:06 history.dir
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 262148 May 30 04:02 history.pag
-rw-r--r-- 1 news news 249 Jul 24 2000 newsgroups
-rw-r--r-- 1 news news 0 Jul 24 2000 subscriptions
(This is inn-2.2.3-3 on RH 7.0)
