A Numbat is a cute (look at that nose!), furry, endangered Australian marsupial. There are many other words that I could have used instead (and I'll admit, sometimes do). But that wouldn't be fun. If you would like a lengthy description of why Gentoo and friends (LFS, etc) are not viewed favourably by bigots like me (FOSS software contributors), and why I'm more than willing to encourage people to use other systems, you're welcome to ask.
