Not quite, note the word "choice". Our society permits discrimination
against people based on things of their choosing (in most cases).
Discrimination against things that are not choices is a different
kettle of fish and in nearly all cases is not considered acceptable.

Intent is not often properly understood and we need to be careful of
that. For instance, I find all the slogans at tshirthell.com to be
highly amusing, because I consider them to be so blatant as to
obviously mock the bigoted attitudes that they proclaim (and that's
how they are intended by the creators). Of course, others disagree.

Unfortunately bigots still exist, and that's why many things can be
misinterpreted. I often find myself at odds with people when I put
forward a bigoted attitude in jest, but it is taken literally or
people think there is some underlying nastiness. I've taken on a more
sensitive attitude to try and deal with this.

I seriously don't take offence against anything, but then again, I'm
not subject to much discrimination (some, but not much).

Perhaps we can all try to recognise that others have deep wounds that
are still healing, but also to take things people say in good faith
and not assume the worst.

Cheers,

Ben
