Client devices like airNIC and aircarte automatically reconfigure preamble settings based on the airBridge settings.

The Preamble is a section of data at the head of packet that contains information of the device and clients need when sending and receiving packets.

A long preamble ensures compatibility between the access point and all other wireless devices. Short preamble is basically used for streaming video and VoIP applications.

Long preamble is highly recommended when there is poor link stability in the wireless connection due to interference or any other reason.

You said it will when using airBridge, I assume this is the same for the airNic?  How about other smartBridges products?

Also, when should preamble be used, what effects does it have; so far I know that short preamble provides more bandwidth but takes

longer to associate, does using short preamble vs. long preamble improved link quality and/or work better in areas with

interference?
