You must allow ARP so that the gateway can response to the client
whenever it requires to access to internet.

I have blocked ICMP packets...but I also blocked all traffic from being
addressed to the broadcast address of x.x.x.255 . I only allow my
router and management CPU to broadcast to that address. SNMP queries
need that, right?

May I know how do you define to stop broadcast ping in the firewall? If
it is just deny ICMP and allow the rest of the services, I think it
should be ok.

I was thinking the same Alex. Thanks for reassuring me of that though.
When I get back to my head-end location tomorrow, I will definitely
change that rule. Stupid me. Odd thing is...after a little bit
(sometimes rebooting the client computer, or the client pings the
gateway) it starts to work again???

BTW...I just attended my first ever prenatal appt and heard/saw my
babies heart beat (ultrasound) for the first time. WOW! Sully's gonna
be a Daddy!  Happy Father's Day to me.  (-;

Mark, broadcast is required for ARP request and if the client do not get
response back from the gateway, so that could be problem.

Just to add my really quick 2 cents.

I have had 30 units online since January...with all working superbly. 1.
I use only static IPs (both sB unit and client computer on same
subnet)
2. I do not use any grounding.

I am in the process of deploying 30 more (newly acquired) units. I will
let you know if I run into any problems.

Side Note: I recently put a rule in my firewall that stops broadcast
pings from my clients. Since then, I have had some problems with
clients not able to surf the net?? I am thinking...and I don't know
yet...but I am thinking that the broadcast ping is needed for the client
to talk to the gateway??? I am always able to ping the wireless device
and client computer...just the client cant surf the net. Sounds like a
DNS issue...but it is not. I think it is something with the pings I am
blocking at the firewall (prior to the gateway).???

I'm just guessing here but my "gut" (and it's getting pretty big) tells
me these problems may be related to proper grounding.

Maybe SB could put a grounding lug on the bottom of the outdoor units...
