One interesting thing we found when installing the new Cisco switch, we left it at auto-negotiate (at first). It negotiated with the Smartbridges AP as 10Mbps-FULL Duplex. We were seeing errors and packet loss (3-4% still). We hard-coded the Cisco switch to 10Mbps-HALF duplex and now everything is running great. It seems like the problem with the smaller switches may (MAY) be that they negotiate as 10Mbps-FULL (just like a Cisco does when dealing with the Smartbridges). I'm not sure why this is but we also saw this same thing with a Smartbridges talking to Cisco 2924 switch so it seems to be consistent.....

We were having the same problem. Our AP's were sitting behind Canopy SMs
and had a Lynksys switch in between the two. The switch was showing
collisions
almost continuously.

Solution?

We put in Cisco 1500 series managed switches. I can't tell you how much
they are
as we were diggin in the back room and found them in a corner. Look on
ebay.
The nice thing is you can hard code the interface speeds.

After swapping out the switches, thru put tripled and dropped packets
disappeared.

Can someone recommend an easy to find, and relatively
cheap hub or switch that the AB Ethernet port will play
     nicely with?

I've tracked down the problem of our speed decrease as
being the switches we are using. I've now tried 3 different
types of hub and switch with the same (or worse) results.

Basically what I did was plug the laptop into the hub/switch
with nothing else plugged into it but the radio. Then did a
speed test. The result was between 450-600Kbps.

I pulled the hub/switch and plugged the radio directly into
my laptop which has an auto sense 10/100mbit Linksys USB
Ethernet adapter, and did the speed test. The results were
     between 900-1000Kbps.

A list of known compatible switches or hubs that don't
compromise the throughput would be great.

Thanks.
