Ya...I hear ya. I want to have the fewest amount of PCs involved as possible.
Being that simpleMonitor runs on Windows...and I have sooooo much time put into my MS Access Database, I need a Windows box. I just ordered a Microtik flash drive from Eje...and that will be my other box. Between the two, I want to run EVERYTHING. I use my backbone's DNS and EMAIL servers for free...so I don't need them (use static IPs as well---so I don't need DHCP server). I plan on using the Win2k server box for MS Access (client info/radius info), simpleMonitor, IAS/Radius, and IIS webserver for clients bandwidth pages (using MRTG). Then the MT box for PPPoE/Bandwidth throttling. Hey, Sully, If a sales guy like me can build a Linux box, then so can you. What I like the best is that you can take those "junk" Pentium boxes and make them useful again. I have the firewall for the home network, complete with content filtering, URL filtering, a "red zone" for web servers to keep them separated from the rest of the network, and several other whiz-bang-neato-keen things all running on an old Pentium 90 box that a friend thought they were "unloading" on me. A P233? I'd build an email server out of that in a heartbeat! IMHO, Linux is tons easier to set up than Win2K Server ever was. Kevin B. Roll up your sleeves and bite the bullet, Sully. Get a Linux box ;) It's not as scary as it seems. I'm sure there are lots of guys and gals on the list that will help you set it up for a modest fee (or maybe even for free). I'm getting ready to set up my 3rd box (replacing my 2nd --which is a lowly P2 233 running backup DNS, backup DHCP & MRTG on *ALL* my CPEs, APs and border router), and I'm doing this one all by myself. I'm sure my Linux mentor will slap my hand a couple of times with the newbie mistakes I'm about to make, but hey.. it's all fun and games, right? Once all the dirty work is done, it's just a matter of tweaking a few .conf files every once in a while. Lots of neat stuff a Linux box can do that WinNT won'nt (hey! Just noticed that "winnt" looks a lot like "wont") TIM ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "The Wirefree Network" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Mon, 3 Nov 2003 18:32:03 -0800 >HEre is one that is a fully functional program with no time limit.
