That’s interesting. We are running SmartOS on our Gen 8 Microservers for the 
last 18+ months - without issues when it comes to USB booting.SmartOS installed 
on the internal SD with BIOS set to USB boot. Booting from a stick on the 
external USB seems to always have higher priority. However, if that is 
unplugged again the Microserver falls back to booting from the internal sd 
card. What you describe sounds like the issues with had with other OS’s that 
boot from disk, though. That order changed with every disk swap/plugin/removal. 
Extremely annoying. Fortunately not with USB (from my experience).
