I had the exact same symptoms. In my case, I had an Apple USB 2.0 keyboard that I was using. When I switched to an older Apple USB 1.1 keyboard, everything worked. I had this problem with all Solaris OS versions from 10 through the current version, and I’ve had it with SmartOS.
