Yeah, am aware of that. SmartOS is a hypervisor useful in cloud setups.
That's why I use XStreamOS with the joyent pkgsrc package set for all my
needs, both desktop & web development workstation. Tribblix, openindiana or
osdyson can also be used for desktop/workstation.Was surprised one of our
community members was looking at using SmartOS in a different way, hence posted
these queries.From: "a b" <[email protected]>Sent: Thu, 27

sets.Unfortunately not, as SmartOS is a  hypervisor  most
similar  toVMware ESXi.What you could do is run a joyent-branded
zone inside of  SmartOSwith X libraries and one of the X window managers,
but you'd needan X server to bring the display back to, defeating  the
purposeof running SmartOS as a desktop, since you'd need another
desktopto do that. You can of  course  run  a  web
server  with  PHP  and  do  yourdevelopment on
SmartOS in vi(1) or vim(1), or bring an integrateddevelopment environment's
display over to  your  X  server  (yourdesktop).SmartOS is
a cloud hypervisor for running servers. It's purposelydesigned to do that,
and do it well. It's not a desktop operatingsystem.--Empathy is still a
