You need to be patient. On my old HP Microserver N40L it takes about 10 minutes to boot
from a USB stick.

That system, incidentally, is an AMD CPU. The main disadvantage of that with SmartOS is that KVM isn't supported, but as long as you stick with native SmartOS zones or LX Native zones,
you are fine.

There's plenty you can learn about running SmartOS before you get to using KVM zones.
