Yes, they are, very much so. And the solution will without a doubt affect future interaction with SMF and how services and handled. The problem, as I understand it, is that an instance might be an instance of the same type of service, e.g. named, or it might be an instance under the same category, yet of a completely different piece of software. And it is this scenario that complicates things by quite a bit. The idea/framework/architecture of SMF does seem to be designed to support it though, so that's a step in the right direction.
