Have you tried the Shared folder? or just accessing things on the external disk? have you switched the 'ignore permissions on this volume' thing in Get Info? There's two classes of thing here, I think. There's stuff that draws heavily on the Library (eg iCal). And there's stuff that doesn't (like Word files). Are you trying to use both with one source (a sort of remote user set-up)? You're saying Profiles but I think you must mean User.Basically, users are designed to be distinct and independent so you're going right across that design structure.
