Folks,

The G5 in question is getting worse, this morning it would not start up at
all.
I checked with Apple as Sam suggested but they would not rectify the fault
under the warranty extension scheme.

So, fearing the worst I ordered a new 24² iMac from Apple this morning.
I also ordered a SATA firewire enclosure with a view to putting the hard
drive from the existing Mac in it, connecting it to the new Mac and
transferring my data. (I hope this is feasible.)

However, the G5 has now powered up so perhaps I will be able to connect it
to the new Mac direct.

QUESTIONS:

As I have never transferred data form one machine to another before, I am
assuming it is straightforward and that I merely need to follow some on
screen prompts.
But I assume that the first thing I need to do is get on line with the new
machine, perform any available updates, then load my software from the
disks, before trying the transfer.

Is this correct or does someone have a better walk through?

Thanks,

Steve.
