Folks,

Further to my post below I would like to thank Sam, Stuart, Tom,and Paul,
for their input regarding the migration process etc.
This worked like a charm, for some reason I could not envisage things being
so simple.

I am really pleased with the new machine and the Leopard OS. However, there
does appear to be one small glitch;

  Model Name: iMac
  Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
  Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz

When I wake the machine from sleep, and open my email, (Entourage.) the
programme loads but emails do not download as I am no longer connected to
the internet.
If I open Google I also get a message telling me I am not connected, I run
the diagnostic which calls for my wireless ID, once I put this in I am off
and running.

Ther is also a problem when dowloading podcasts in iTunes, the process
starts OK with a transfer rate of around 800 kb/sec, but the rate slowly
falls away before loosing the connection with an 3253 error massage, the
process resumes immediately I re start it, but the same thing happens
again.

I am not sure if these issues are related.

Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Steve.

Conversation: iMac G5 Keeps shutting down
Subject: [sussex_mug] Re: iMac G5 Keeps shutting down

Folks,

The G5 in question is getting worse, this morning it would not start up at
all.
I checked with Apple as Sam suggested but they would not rectify the fault
under the warranty extension scheme.

So, fearing the worst I ordered a new 24² iMac from Apple this morning.
I also ordered a SATA firewire enclosure with a view to putting the hard
drive from the existing Mac in it, connecting it to the new Mac and
transferring my data. (I hope this is feasible.)

However, the G5 has now powered up so perhaps I will be able to connect it
to the new Mac direct.

QUESTIONS:

As I have never transferred data form one machine to another before, I am
assuming it is straightforward and that I merely need to follow some on
screen prompts.
But I assume that the first thing I need to do is get on line with the new
machine, perform any available updates, then load my software from the
disks, before trying the transfer.

Is this correct or does someone have a better walk through?

Thanks,

Steve.
