Hi,

A quick update to this thread - turned out the data on the disk was
irretrievable (even with Disk Warrior apparently).

A shame, but the Apple reseller who looked at the MacBook revealed
something I found intriguing: he has received and email from Apple
basically stating that Apple have had so many MacBooks with faulty
HD's and customers data being lost that in certain circumstances (i.e.
if the customer shouts enough, I imagine) they will send the unit to
the US for data recovery under warranty, FOC. The caveat being you
have to pay shipping and taxes (which unfortunately, mount up very
quickly when shipping from the UK).

Anyone know if that's true? If so, to me that almost constitutes as
addmittal of a design/manufacturing fault!

James
