I'm not really clued up on the underlying stuff that could be causing your 
problem, but have you tried things like creating a new user account to see 
if the problem still happens there? If it does, I reckon something broke in 
your upgrade - if you have a spare external HDD to do an install on (or a 
backup of your current install) I would suggest a clean install to see if 
that fixes it.

On a reread of your initial mail you talk of saving images/videos and 
trying to view them with Preview - are you only referring to files that you 
are saving out of Entourage, or could they have come from anywhere like 
being downloaded using Safari/Firefox, or being copied from another 
computer with e.g. a USB stick?

It shouldn't be too hard to gradually diagnose where the problem lies, 
given enough resources!
