Have you tried telling your Mac which program to use when opening these
files?

E.g. Select a pdf file in the Finder, then do a Get Info on it (in the
Finder->File->Get Info. Then in the 'Open with:' section select "Preview"
and click on the "Change All ..." button.

Repeat the above for other file types.

Does that help?
