Thanks very much for your excellent advice, Benjamin.  I am amazed.  It was
dead...and now it is working again after following your very clear
instructions.   Why did this happen?  Is there anything I should do to
ensure it doesn't happen again?  At the top left of screen where there is an
icon of battery, it has said 'calculating' for past 5 minutes.  If I click
on battery it says 0% but the MagSafe power adapter is now showing an orange
light whereas before it wasn't showing anything.
