iPhoto is a great tool for managing your images, it will allow very basic
manipulation, red eye removal for example, but that's really as far as it goes.

You can get a free trial version from Adobe's web site for Elements. Try before
you buy, you can't get better than that!!

Subject: Re: [sussex_mug] Quick question:

Thanks chaps. Perhaps I'm asking the wrong question. What do I want it to do?
(Answers on a postcard please.) Currently any snapshots are stored in the
iPhoto library. I can't see that being a problem, but at the same time there
is no point in using iPhoto to store if I decide to use something else to
manage/manipulate images/libraries.

Perhaps, having iPhoto already, I should stick with that and see what it
doesn't do that I want it to in due course.

PS elements seems to do most of it and is comprehensive as an editing tool for
my purposes I would think. But then Lightroom and Aperture would probably see
me into the next century and of course also have the same powerful (for a rank
amateur like me) editing suite.

Much thought is needed I think.

Thanks again.

As Darren T says, they do different things. Sorry to further muddy the waters,
but have you looked at Lightroom?

They do different things so possibly both. If you're not shooting RAW,
probably not worth buying Aperture.
