depends how it's set up. Is it IMAP? If so, it should all be on the server.
Have you actually done this? If you run the archive and install Tiger disk, that should preserve the data (though it might produce some oddities as mailbox formats might well have changed.) You DID mean from 10.6 to 10.4, right? not the other way round?
