Thanks. I suspect the problem is more mundane. As Rob said earlier my iPhone should connect but for some reason the router will not accept the username or password.

Well, yes and no! ...the iPhone does not plug into iPhone.

But the mi-fi creates a wi-fi network - your iPhone can then connect to the internet using that wi-fi network.

Would not recommend 3 network (poor coverage) but that hardware on another network (say, Vodafone) would be superb IMHO.
