I wasn't here when Phil sent his request. I know there's been an answer. But 
for those of you looking for a wordprocessor that strips carriage returns, try 
Nisus. The find and replace is particularly powerful. www.nisus.com

There's also a macro (provided) called form paragraph, which will take a chunk 
of text which has carriage returns, and form it into a paragraph.

As column readers will know, Nisus is my favourite wordprocessor. These 
features are one reason.
