Michael,

My first thought on seeing your post was, "oh no, what's Michael had nicked 
now!"

Second thought was, what "sins" can you try on an iPad? Is there an app for 
iPad sins?

Third thought was, "sounds to me like a dodgy sim". Try a different sim before 
anything else.
