I've got one of the slightly earlier 3 MiFis. Works fine with iPad, though I only done small tests - mostly use with my laptop. No problem reading email on laptop or iPhone over it, haven't tried with iPad.

In general I'm very pleased with it - I went through a number of different 3g dongles, and I'm really pleased to be able to clear all their cruddy drivers out of my system; and if I'm travelling with a colleague, we can both get online at once.

I used it in France with a French SIM, which after a nightmare of dealing with crap French mobile salespeople (probably no worse than crap English ones, but different!) was fantastic - laptop, iPhones could all get access. Very convenient for overseas access.

Unfortunately no Mac software; only a PITA for me as I have Parallels on my laptop, but would be a Royal PITA (two notches worse on the official scale) otherwise.

The new ones have a much better set of indicators, which I'm sorry not to have. In general, highly recommended!

I have an iPad 3G which is pretty much glued to me as it's been more practical

monthly contract for 3GB per month is dropping to 2GB at end-September.

I'll probably switch to Three who have a 10GB monthly contract for the same
price, although I've not needed more than 3GB but have used more than 2GB on a
couple of occasions - all that cloud access we're getting accustomed to. I've
been told that Three customer support is almost nonexistent - is this true?

Anyone using a Three Mifi with an iPad as it might prove to be a more versatile
solution, albeit something else to carry around? Pros and cons anyone?
