Sorry I can't help, but this sounds very similar to a problem I have been
having with my iMac. I can never predict when it is going to happen, but
suddenly the screen goes black. Everything sounds OK, but the only way out
seems to be holding in the power button until it shuts down.

When I restart, everything is fine . . . until the next time. This happens
at most once a day.
