Can I just confirm that aperture will give me image catalogues. I used iview for years, and it had advantages even if it wasn't pretty. Moving to iphoto, I discovered, is dangerous: lost images, originals damaged etc. Now that aperture doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'm thinking I might move to that for general editing of photos, and for cataloguing.
