I'm inclined to agree that Pages is worth serious consideration. I co-edit a 
quarterly history magazine and we use Pages. Footnotes, end notes, indexing, 
TOC, and citation (just about to start using BibDesk for this), etc. Much 
easier than Word especially with combining character, line, and paragraph 
adjustments, and my co-editor is a longstanding Word user who agrees.
