this has me tearing my hair out. My kitchen (half office, half kitchen)
got flooded by neighbour. The fuse had blown on the extension set that
powers the computer and other devices, which was worrying. Changed fuse
-- Computer seemed ok at first but now realise FW not working. Apple
System Profiler says unable to list firewire devices whatever drive I
start up from.
tried to start from hardware test disk -- not recognised. I was reduced
to removing every single hard drive and starting from the installer
disk, with option key held down, and then swapping for the hardware test
disk -- still not recognised to start up and test.
So can anyone answer these specific questions?
1) is the Firewire card a separate item I can remove and take back to
Apple for a replacement?
2) How can I run a diagnostic to test the whole machine for further
damage without a hardware test disk?
3) does a power surge due to water damage in a plug or similar sound
plausible here?
I am incredibly 'up against it' so may ignore advice that is not
relevant/have already tried, please don't think less of me for doing so;)
thanks all.
