rebuild the mailboxes (right-click them). Export them as mbox. Get
Mailsmith (free) and import. It has a command to remove duplicates.
Re-export, back into Mail.
are you using it as pop-server or imap? If former, then this will be
because they moved the stuff around on a server so Mail didn't
recognise. Not good to let a pop server pile up in the long run -- it's
a temporary space.
