Hi Adam,

I have a mac.com address (via iCloud which is IMAP) and moving an email from
my Inbox into my Mac's local folder will remove it from the server - so I
suppose that is what Gmail will do too. This is true whether I move it manually
or have a local rule on my iMac move the message.

There are others here with far more detailed knowledge than I who may have more
to add ... ;)
