That model should support 8gb. Where did you get the RAM from and what brand is 
it?

Although you've swapped slots, have you swapped chips? 4gb Chip A in 1 and 1gb 
in 2 then 4gb chip B in 1 and 1gb in 2?

One of the chips may be marginal.  Speak to the supplier and ask if they'll 
swap them. Most RAM carries a lifetime warranty.
