Adam,

That model MacBook will support 6gb (1 x 4 and 1 x 2) of RAM but the official
Apple line is 4gb (2 x 2gb). Definitely worthwhile, give Paul Atkins at Mr
Memory in Worthing a call on 01903 692214.

Assuming its still running its original version of the OS, start up from the
install DVD (insert the disk, restart and hold down the C key,) progress
through the early screens. When you get to the install options screen, go to
the 'Utilities' menu on the menu bar and select Disk Utility.

When Disk Utility opens, select your internal Hard Drive from the column on the
left, make sure First Aid is selected from the buttons along the top of the
window ten run the Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions options.

Quit everything and restart.

If your hard drive is making weird clicking sounds, back it up as soon as you
can. A failing hard drive will always result in severe performance problems.
