My twopenneth: Even on my trusty iphone 4, this is a brilliant update.
It works brilliantly, and the few places it lags a fraction, are insignificant. Moreover it's outweighed by speed improv ents elsewhere eg Spotlight, Camera. At first, I wasn't hugely in favour of the UI overhaul, but really prefer it after a half fu use. My wife's iOS device now seems dated. Nothing is there for the sake of it. Hence animations and transparencies aren't eye candy (merely) they help me navigate and interact a whole lot better with the device. Stock apps are much nicer to use all round, and it really is like having a new device. It's a smart move ensuring those on 4 year old devices (hardly old-old) are now in the iOS7 ecosystem. I'm now much more likely to become reliant on the features of my most used apps that will mean a new handset will one day be needed! It's vastly superior to iOS6 in many, many ways. And I loved 6. I couldn't imagine how such seemingly minor tweaks would make a phone so much more useful at what I need it to do. But they do. FYI if you've not updated, I backed up and then updated on device. It took 45mins all said and done and couldn't have been easier. Fears and errors when iOS 4 ruined my 3G are but a distant memory. Apple have not made those errors again and reports that the 4 can't handle ios7 are clearly from folks who are used to the speed of a 5. It works splendidly.
