And it (the ribbon cable) might possibly just simply not be seated in place securely.
Which would be considerably cheaper still !!!!

Before you spend a load of money, make sure it's not the display ribbon cable. It's a £15 part.

    Howdy,

I have an 18 month old 13MBP retina. I recently had problems with
the trackpad which was fixed by authorised apple dealer locally.
About a week later the screen flickered for a bit and then went
black. I plugged in my tv as an external monitor and it worked
great, but I need a portable option too.

So I've just taken it to same auth dealer and they say there is
corrosion on the motherboard nr where the screen connects. They
say it could be the motherboard (£400) and if not then the screen
    might be at fault (£300).

It gets a load of wear and tear as I travel and work a lot but
I've never had more than a spots of tea on it.

I trust the dealers, I think, but I don't want to spend £700 as it
seems excessive. I'm thinking of buying an external monitor and
then an iPad with keyword for trucking around with. Am I being
foolish and have more problems around the corner with the MBP.

I have asked for a pic of the corrosion, so will see what comes
back.
Any advice welcome as it's looking expensive whichever way I look
at it? Also any suggestions on a decent monitor at a good price?

I'll be going for warranties from now on. The best mac I ever had
was my first preintel one circa 2004 I think. It lasted 3 yrs
without even a reboot, the only thing that killed it was a pint of
beer that an ex spilled on it. Since then I'm lucky to ho a year
without things starting to break. Is this just me?

    Sorry to ramble.

Michael.
