Thanks Sam. Tried the SMC reset, alas didn't do anything.
Reinstalled 10.6 (twice) but both times all seems ok at first, but then when trying to get past welcome screens/registration, it gives me the pizza wheel and the whole thing freezes. So.... 1. Could it be the HDD? 2. If so, would an old HDD from my MacBook Pro fit as a replacement? 3. If so, can I just insert and reinstall OS and see what happens? 4. If not the HDD, any thoughts? 5. Could having let the computer shut itself down with 0% battery, whilst playing a DVD, have caused this?!? Be good to know for the future - all seems rather coincidental given the unit has been such a reliable workhorse since 2008! Any help appreciated...
