doubt it; maybe, but it was on the edge anyway, I'd say. HDs can start to wear out at this point (six years?). I've just replaced one in an identical machine for someone. It was probably about to go.
Actually if the disk did get damaged it probably means the battery is going and the machine couldn't shut down safely. Also par for the course for this age machine...
