Thanks for your information Stephen. Can you tell me how you managed to get to
talk / communicate with Apple? I'm really mystified about what I might have
done to get this problem. My Apple ID works with everything else!

I have this issue too and had Apple phone me yesterday.
In my case, for reasons lost in the mists of time, (but verified by my own
archived emails) I asked Apple to cancel my purchase of Pages 4 in 2011.
Because of a recent policy change by Apple they no longer allow free updates to
apps that have been refunded. The upshot of this is that my version of Pages is
now frozen at 5.5.3 and the only way I can get 5.6 is to buy it from the Mac
App Store.
Oddly, I was able to update Numbers to 3.6 on the same iMac. It probably makes
sense but I don’t know what I did back in 2011. Maybe I had to buy both and
purposely bought Numbers and accidentally bought Pages and then got a refund on
the latter but updates have been allowed on the latter until now.
Cheers,
Stephen

The App store tells me that I have an update available for Pages, but when I
try to download it I get the message "This update is not available for this
apple id because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or
cancelled." The only explanantion I can think of is that perhaps my wife or
sons (who each have their own User accounts on this iMac) purchased Pages
originally. Noneof them can remember doing this (and it is unlikely that they
did) What can I do?
