I didn't expect them to, but I was hoping for some clues about whether
it's the graphics card or the CPU. Are you saying it's probably the
latter?

TBH Apple aren’t going to want to know about a 2010 model, even 2011

For those with a dark sense of humour, here's a summary of my
dealings with Apple.
Went to the 'chat' option online, and selected start-up problems. It
then insisted on a serial number, and helpfully told me where to find
it via About this Mac (on the machine that won't start). Undaunted, I
dug out a record of it from somewhere and was fulsomely welcomed by
'Michael'. He asked for the OS and serial number and told me it was
visible under 'About this Mac', so I gently reminded him it wasn't
starting up but we got past that.
I told him amongst other things that it's not the display as I've
checked with another one, and that didn't work either. He said not to
worry I was in safe hands. Two minutes later he's saying they don't
support it but they have sent me some articles which might be
helpful. He sent two: one was a list of 'obsolete products' (ie,
we're not helping) and the other was how to get a display working
again.
Fabulous stuff.

Hi gang
Very worried for my 2010 Mac Pro here. The screen suddenly went dark.
The fans still run, and it still powers on and off but no chime. No
power comes through the USB ports and my laptop can't connect to it
on the local network. I've done an SMC reset but not sure what else I
can do. I'm guessing it's the CPU or the graphics card but if the
latter, surely it would start up in headless mode (or would it?).
Anyone able to help me work it out without carting all 16kg of it to
a repair shop?
cheers
