ok, disconnected every single thing, including RAM, dusted a bit, put
RAM back in carefully, restarted.
No chime, screen dark. Sound of fans and hard drives, nonetheless.
It took a couple of seconds to realise that without the monitor
connected at all, this was entirely normal.
So -- with a little embarrassment but I *had* tried swapping out RAM
several times -- I'm very pleased to thank you yet again Sam for saving
the day:)
But I infer that the chime has been deprecated somehow (or maybe it
connected to the bluetooth headphones...)
Also it seems that one of my USB PCI cards is dead, I wonder if that was
something to do with it. It was definitely working when it went down
because the iPad did that 'hey I'm not charging now' flash of the
screen.
Very much appreciated, Sam. If you have a tip jar, let me know as you do
so much for people, and I know it's hard-earned knowledge.
