And I'm just saying that it's one thing to say what you would do, and it
becomes infinitely more complicated when it is your loved one lying in the
coma, or on the ventilator.

I've helped make the decision to terminate life support, or withhold it more
than once, and sat with people who have had to make it. I've experience in
my own family a loved one who could breathe on her own for 20 years, but for
all practical purposes was dead. Yeah, her husband chose to divorce her and
get on with his life, but anyone who knew him or her could never say he was
being cruel or unkind to her. Even after remarrying (which he didn't for a
very long time) he sat at the hospital every day, spent every dime he could
to see she got the best care, but he did get on with his life. She was my
blood kin, I took my name from her, and I say without hesitation she would
have approved of him doing just what he did. Were she able she would have
given her blessing. It didn't mean he loved her less, but he had to accept
reality that she wasn't coming back. We do not know why God allowed her to
linger as long as he did, she died earlier this year, but no decisions
regarding her care were easy for the family.

I'm just saying these kinds of cases are never as easy or simple as they may
seem. A lot of heartache takes place when one's loved one gets put on life
support. I know. I've been there, done that and sold the t-shirt to lose
the memories.

I wasn't casting any stones, merely stating that *I* couldn't fathom it...
