That latter bit was why I said what I did before, it seemed the only justification for it. And as I said before, with that, didn't seem like the cop had much choice.

So I say the blame wasn't with the cop,  nor the cops being called. But with the insurance laws being written in such a way, that would require a ticket be wrote to a kid before they would pay.

Because that aside, I agree with the Rev completely. We're way too sue happy, and cop calling happy for our own good.

Funny 19 year olds were mentioned, made me think of a story to prove my point. That the insurance law is what was at fault. I remember once years ago in Louisiana, a lady hit us in the rear in McDonalds parking lot. We both got out and looked, no damage was done to either car, she hit me, but I told her I wasn't going to call the cops unless she did. There was no damage, whatsoever to either car. For one my insurance was out, so I didn't want a ticket when I was the one hit and there was no damage. lol

She said fine, and we both left. I went from there to Krogers, she tracks me down at Krogers and calls the cops. Saying her husband said if anything were found wrong later on, the insurance company wouldn't pay otherwise. Geez...wasn't a scratch on either veichle. That to me says, the insurance laws need changed. Shouldn't the two owners have a choice whether to call or not, if there is no damage? But as the laws were written, they got called anyway. At least thanks to her goofy husband. lol

Same with the kid getting a fine, I would side with the Rev and say that would be one that should have been worked out between the parents and the person the kid ran into. But again, as the law was written..it left the cop no choice. At least from what I read.....

Yeah I read the article. I know exactly what it said. And being 8 is no excuse. Being a little kid is no excuse. You are never too young to start learning the rules. If this kid had been a second sooner, he would have been in front of the car being hit by it. Also the reason the cops were called was b/c the car owner couldn't file a claim with his insurance w/o an accident report.

Last I checked, kid or adult not obeying the rules of the road was illegal too. If they are going to be on their bikes in the road they have to obey laws just like anyone else regardless of age.

did you even read the article? it said he was jumping dirt piles and landed out and crossed into the path. he wasnt going across town here.  hes an 8 year old little kid. they are lucky to remember to use soap in the shower much less 25 rules of the road
