This post documents the control latency measured with various RC equipment.
The transmitter was: JR8103 with the stock 72Mhz module in PPM, or a Spektrum 2.4GHz module. The receivers were: 1. Hitec Superslim (Represents non-computerized technology) 2. Berg7 (Represents newer receivers with frame validation etc.) 3. Spektrum AR7000 The setup used the "Gear" switch to make a sudden pulsewidth change that could be easily observed on an oscilloscope. The time from the falling edge of the switch to the first observed pulsewidth change on that servo channel was measured. Owing to the fact that the switch movement could not be synchronized to the start of a transmitted frame, the latency time was seen to vary over several attempts. We continued to record until the very longest latency time was recorded. The anticipated variation from the longest to the shortest latency time would be (naturally) 1 frame which amounts to about 22milliseconds for this 8 channel transmitter, so the shortest latency time can be known by subtracting 22ms from the latency times shown. The yellow trace is the gear switch going low. The green trace is the servo channel responsive to the gear switch. The measured latency time can be read in the upper right-hand corner of the display. As can be seen, the longest latency time is so short as to be negligible for human detection or response. +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Filename: 2.4GHz Gear Switch AR7000.png | |Download: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1840416 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ -- Quacker ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Quacker's Profile: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=4759 View this thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=856574 RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
