except for the skeg part. My personal wish is that we keep everything the way it is, but lose these devices. There is something very ungraceful about the typical *splat* down to the ground of most high scoring landings with skegs
Keeping things the way they are... means using skegs, first as I have mentioned before, skegs are American.... :)
And the ungraceful thing is a reference to full size again...and 'soaring'. Back to the confusion that TD is about 'soaring' (meaning floating around like some bird), its not.
TD is about attempting to perform assigned tasks.
Its not about looking like full size sailplanes, or doing what full size sailplanes do. Its about precision time and getting the nose on the spot..... NO its not about sliding gracefully into the spot and ten judges hold up cards that say "9.9, 9.8,9.2....."
If the landings were scored that way we'd really have some threads about judges mis-opinions.
Wincing is a good thing when you see someone splat for points. Its fun, its sad, its exciting....its a DECISION made on purpose by the sailplane's partner...good or bad.
In any case, its all fun. We each get to decide how we will get the nose on that spot...its up to each of us. In America we have that freedom of choice.
Anyone interested in trying to take that choice away from us? :-)
Its about the task not about the grace....and thats a good thing :-) Not to mention skegs save planes and pilots. We don't have belly wheels with brakes.
