One final thought from me. It has been stated that
landings are unfairly emphasized, with the specific
example of: Hey - what if I get my 8 minute task and
no landing, and some bozo only gets 7 but a 90 landing
- he beats me - MOM that ain't fair and it ain't
soaring!!!

I argue that it is in fact soaring. The guy that got
back to the LZ managed his energy better than you. He
knew how high he had to be to get back to the LZ. He
knew the effect of the wind and when to come back. He
knew how to avoid the sink. And he knew how long it
was going to take to get back.

We are not just rewarding pilots for the landing, but
for managing their energy to GET the landing.

And this IS like full scale - because generally you
want to manage your energy to get to the runway.
Taking that low thermal and landing out is generally
considered poor judgement.
