There's the WiBox by Lantronix http://www.lantronix.com/device-networking/external-device-servers/ wibox.html
I've used the WiFi modules used in the WiBox and they're pretty good. The device is configured either via a web interface, telnet interface, or the serial line. It presents a (different) telnet port that connects you to the serial port when connect to it. You can get them from Mouser.com, they cost about $345. If you want to do it on the cheap, I'd suggest getting an OpenWrt- compatible wireless router with USB, like the Linksys WRTSL54GS, and add a cheap USB-to-serial adapter to it. Configure OpenWrt to act in client mode and have it connect to your existing access point. The whole deal would cost ~$100 (from NewEgg) and would give you an embedded Linux system to play with. :) -=tod On Jul 25, 2006, at 7:22 PM, Mike Burgess wrote: > > Installing my PV system, and the xantrex inverter > http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/172/p/968/pt/2/product.asp > has a RS232 (everyday serial port) for data logging. > > It's a 80' run from the garage, into the house, up a > floor, and across a hallway, to the far wall, where a > PC lives.
