I think the problem is that 803.11b hasn't been ratified yet. Try using 802.11b. :)
But seriously folks, definitely try the app with the laptop in performance mode (you can turn down the screen brightness though). Wireless in windows can have problems reactivating when devices are powered down. Even though you only have the HDD turned off, I could picture a problem where the wireless card needs to page to the swap file and times out while the HDD is spinning back up. Also, you never really know what's going on with windows laptops in battery-saver mode. Many power-saving features are not documented or manageable within windows. One example is the keyboard powering down - there is no setting for that in Windows besides battery-saver & performance mode. Please let us know what you find! -Mike -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mike Burgess Sent: Thursday, August 24, 2006 10:33 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [SOCALWUG] Re: laptop 803.11b keeps shutting down, part 2 My first choice too, but the app that records the inverter's data from the serial port, is a Windows app, and I don't know if it will work under WINE Any idea on how WINE is with serial ports, and then to USB for wireless ul ? --- Tim Schaeffer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > You might try turing off the screen saver and hd > powerdown but wndows is not > reliable enough for this kind of aplicaion imo.
