Nice job! After looking at your pics, one suggestion I have is that you move the bulkhead part of the connector to the *outside* of the can with the wedge part sticking up through the big hole you drilled.
This helps in 2 ways: - You can access the bolt holes a little easier (using a needlenose) and therefore make it flatter. - The base will not get in the way of the RF inside the can, making the cantenna more efficent and getting your signal farther! Overall it's nice! I bet you can reach a mile with one of these attached to a high power card! -Mike -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Chicago D Sent: Wednesday, May 30, 2007 5:18 PM To: SOCALWUG Subject: [SOCALWUG] Re: Wi-Fi Toys --- please bear with me I just have to say thank you to the SOCAL Wireless. After the drilling, sanding, soldering, etc. etc, I have a functioning cantenna. Who would have figured... I'm pretty pumped about it. I went with the 27mm mark to drill. I hope I made the right decision. I stripped a piece of the LMR-400 coax cable, made sure not to knick the copper core, only to pound the end with a hammer to get a wedge shape. Soldering took forever. I'm still very much getting used to the allowable margin of error when it comes to soldering 1mm base of copper core to a N Female connect chassis mount. I was only able to use two screws to hold the connector in place. How one is supposed to reach around beyond the 'wedgy thing' to put in each other nut is a mystery to me. As a result the connector is at bit of an angle to the can. Thanks again. I'm not sure if they will appear, but below is my first cantenna.
