The new WAP54G's surely do have detachable antennas (in fact, Radio Shack
sells Linksys add-on antennas for $39.95 that plug right into the WAP). Go
to a radio shack and check out the connectors (See if they let you open the
box in the store - sometimes they will go for it!)

For the Linksys APs, you would need to attach a pigtail or jumper cable with
either a RP-SMA or RP-TNC connector on one end. And an N-connector to match
your cantenna connector on the other. By the way RP-TNC is slightly larger
in diameter than the RP-SMA.

Here's a nice picture set on cable connectors to help you identify which
connector is on your Wireless AP:

The good folks at Linksys inform me that the Linksys WAP11 has been
discontinued.

They say that this is due to wireless-g being the standard as opposed
to wireless-b.

Of course, the new WAP54G does not allow for any pigtail
attachments.

for the project which involves an access point to a high gain antenna
via a cable, should I worry about any of this? or should I just find
a Linksys WAP11 and be on my way?

thanks.
